Second Hand Smoking Causes Cancer

There was once a time when smoking was considered cool. After the tobacco industry admitted that smoking caused cancer, the world began a journey to stop smoking. The smoker was instantly offended by the campaigns set in place to inform them and passive smokers about the smoking health risks involved.

When a smoker blows the smoke into a room, all the other people in that room also suffer from the health risks. These risks include cancer. Secondhand smoke also refers to the smoke inhaled by baby in the womb. Unlike the mother who is smoking, the baby has very different effects from the tobacco and the nicotine.

When smokers inhale smoke, the majority of the cancer causing agents are left in the lungs. But, the smoke that is exhaled also contains carcinogens. This means a person can spend their entire life without smoking a cigarette only to contract lung cancer from the second hand smoke they inhaled their entire lives. This is the reason many businesses are now moving away from allowing smoking indoors.

Another form of second hand smoke is fetal smoke. The baby does not directly inhale the smoke, but the blood and fluid shared between baby and mom carry the nicotine and carcinogens into the womb. Babies who are born to mothers who smoke during pregnancy have a greater risk of low birth weight and premature birth. Growth problems have also been noted in babies born to smoking mothers.

Smoking second hand smoke is no longer seen as an option. In restaurants, businesses and office buildings, smokers are being shunned outside in order to prevent the illnesses related to smoking. The best bet is for you to stop smoking today and save yourself from the cancer causing agents in cigarette smoke and the cancer causing toxins being spread in your exhaled smoke.
